Changes to MCS Standards

Two changes have been made to the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) of which Finn Geotherm is a member. The changes will largely unaffect customers directly but Finn Geotherm’s compliance with the updates will ensure new heat pump installations continue to be eligible for the RHI.

At the end of October 2017, updates were made to the MCS standard MIS3005 – Requirements for MCS Contractors undertaking the supply, design, installation, set to work, commissioning and handover of Microgeneration Heat Pump Systems. The changes are two-fold – a standard Performance Estimate is now required in order to produce an MCS quote, and a room-by-room heat loss to BS EN 12831 is not needed until an order for a heat pump product has been placed.

As an MCS member and approved installer, Finn Geotherm is ensuring it is fully compliant with these updates in order for customers to receive RHI payments for new installations. The company has always offered a Performance Estimate to give customers an idea of estimated running costs, RHI projections etc and will continue to do so based on the new MCS template, as well as ensuring heat loss reports are provided at the appropriate time during each project.

MCS is an independent scheme designed to evaluate heat pump systems and installers against robust criteria, providing greater protection for consumers. For more details, see the MCS website.
