Finn Geotherm Win Energy Efficient Initiative of the Year Award

At a dinner held for all of the great and good in the rapidly expanding renewables industry, Finn Geotherm of Attleborough Norfolk were given top prize for the national Energy Efficient Initiative of the Year Award for their installation of an air source heat pump system at the new Eureka building at Banham Zoo.

The installation had to compete with many possible contenders from around the UK in order to reach the short list of 5 companies who waited nervously for the announcement of the overall winner at the Energy Efficiency & Renewables Awards dinner held at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on Thursday 12th September. Guy Ransom, Commercial Director of Finn Geotherm who accepted the award, said “I am thrilled for Banham Zoo, as well as our company. The award is a testament to Martin Goymour’s commitment to make the Zoo as environmentally friendly as possible as well as the expertise of our engineers and the quality of the Dimplex air source systems.”

The judges were particularly impressed by the combination of technologies used on the building, enabling it to achieve rapid response to temperature changes whilst still maintaining the subtle control that is required to make the environment ideal for the building’s inhabitants. From Banham’s perspective the system also offers the dual benefit of lower running costs and the potential to access government incentives for low carbon heating.

Banham’s sister park, Dinosaur Adventure, has been benefitting from a 120kW ground source heat pump system to meet the heating demands of the large Dinomite play barn. Martin Goymour said “I am delighted that the installation has received this award. At the end of the day however, the most important thing is knowing that we have a cost effective and reliable system. We are very happy that our experience with this technology has shown this to be so, as well as allowing us to minimise our carbon footprint.”

Martin Goymour is known for using local contractors to serve his varied business commitments whenever possible. The fact that the Banham Zoo installation has won this award underlines the wisdom of this policy, as well as being a testament to the quality of East Anglia’s expertise in this leading edge technology.
